Skills & simulation for returning GP's

Location:  Virtual course only

Date: Friday 9th May 2025 (virtual via MS Teams)

Time: 09:30-17:00. The day maybe shorter if attendee numbers are low.

The GP RTT day is designed for GP trainees returning to clinical practice, both in the hospital and the practice setting. It is an informal day in which we encourage trainees to network, ask questions and plan their return to work/future job juggling. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak to faculty (GPs) and trainees who have previously taken time out. We will re-familiarise attendees with the GP curriculum and ARCP requirements. We will cover refreshing practical skills, using demonstrations and discussions over the virtual connection (including for example: speculum and bimanual examinations, opthalmoscopy and otoscopy, PR examination, newborn examination). Additionally, we will cover key overviews on common GP topics, covering aspects of women's health, children's health, mental health, 2 week wait referrals, emergencies etc. The session will involve small group discussions as well. We are flexible with our timetable so if you are interested in attending and there is anything you would specifically like to cover please do get in touch!

Feedback from previous attendees:

"They will be very helpful to all doctors back from out of programme. Such a good refresher course. Both of the speakers Dr Daniele Savile-Tucker and Dr Frances Rose have very friendly and supportive approach. Supported us emotionally and academically."

"Covered most important aspects that come across in daily practice and emergencies. Able to answer all of questions in an understandable way. Can’t thank you enough."

"I enjoyed meeting and hearing the experiences of other people in a similar situation to myself. The trainers pitched the content and delivery at the correct level, covering key topics which are most relevant to returners."

"The practical skill section could have been difficult for the trainers to deliver virtually, but to be honest, it worked well, and they used resources such as manikins and photos to show how to perform examinations and to show pathology, so even this was very well delivered."
