Neonatal – Recognition of the Sick Newborn - Midwives
This course is available for OUH staff and will support front line workers to be able to recognise a sick newly born infant and to be equipped with the skills to provide immediate resuscitation measures should they be required. To enable professionals to have the knowledge to identify key factors in the baby’s symptoms and signs to initiate appropriate supportive treatments and to communicate clearly and effectively to assistance and support services. The course touches on issues relevant to improving patient safety and team working.
Course content

By acquiring these skills it is intended that health care workers who have attended this course will be able to care for the sick newly born infant until more experienced assistance is available.
The course has been developed based on the existing guidelines provided by the Resuscitation Council (UK), from materials within the ACORN, RAID and PILS courses plus personal experience of the authors.
All places are centrally funded and available for OUH staff.
