Critical Care Skills & Simulation for returning trainees

Time: 09:00-17:00. The day maybe shorter if attendee numbers are low.
This skills and simulation workshop will provide an opportunity to refresh and update technical skills and knowledge relevant to the management of the critically ill adult. Objectives: to increase confidence in performing common ICU related precedures, assessment & stabilisation of the critically ill adult, management of common ICU emergencies, interpret ICU data & refresh life support algorithms. Participants will be able to rehearse the technical skills of central access, chest drain insertion, basic & advanced airway management & surgical airway insertion on part task trainers. You will work as a member of a team to stabilise a simulated critically ill adult in common ICU scenarios eg. respiratory & cardiovascular failure & impaired conscience level. There will also be simulated ICU emergencies such as displaced trachy, anaphylaxis, failed intubation, critically raised ICP & major haemorrhage. Participants will be supported by faculty in the interpretation of common ECG's, imaging relevant to ICU & any recent changes in relevant life support algorithms.
All of this will be provided in a friendly supportive environment with absolutely no assessment and the opportunity to address your specific questions/worries throughout the day. We are unable to provide our free crèche facility at this current time, but we can offer a reimbursement up to £50 for a day of care in the child’s usual setting (on a day they wouldn’t normally attend).
