Director of Teaching

Dr James Thomas is a UK-registered physician, medical educator, and researcher based at the University of Oxford, within the Oxford Simulation, Teaching, and Research Centre. He is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Authority, holds an MSc in Clinical Education from the University of Edinburgh, and a PhD in Clinical Neuroscience from the University of Oxford. His current academic interests include the application of novel technologies, large dataset analysis, and generative AI in healthcare and education.

Dr Thomas has international experience working as an assistant professor in Tokyo and has received multiple international awards and prizes. He has published two books for medical students and numerous international scientific publications. In addition to his academic and teaching roles, he has worked as a clinical advisor in health technology positions and is a member of the Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL) Committee of the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE).
