Joanne is a specialist in Human Factors and obtained her PhD in Human Interface Technologies from the University of Birmingham and her Bachelor’s degree in Ergonomics and Human Factors Design from the University of Loughborough. She has worked in both the Medical Device and Consumer Product industries, where she gained valuable insight into the integration of Human Factors principles into product design.
Joanne is currently working within the OxSTaR team, providing Human Factors expertise on multiple projects, focusing on developing safer working environments for NHS staff. She is also part of the Patient Safety Academy, where she provides training in Human Factors and Incident Analysis.
Joanne is particularly interested in using Human Factors principles to evaluate and design safety critical systems and their components and her research has focused on situation awareness in teams and distributed cognition.
