After attending an OxSTaR Human Factor course, Matt Bottomley saw the potential in creating a course for the dialysis unit to improve patient safety.

Matt, together with Tom Connor, Allie Thornley, Deb Grove and the OxSTaR team put together a bespoke and engaging course looking at haemodialysis emergencies. It is stressed that these are rare scenarios but all the more reason to practise these and refresh knowledge and skills.

The pilot course was attended by doctors and nurses from dialysis units (including satellite units) in OUHFT. The team expressed how they gained a lot from the day, exploring the benefits of simulation in this context.
